Alma Fine Art is proud to present the work of Ariel Toledano in this exhibition called “Dissolving the Form”. This solo exhibition represents the artist’s exploration of abstract photography over the last few years that resulted in his series called “Koncerto”. As he explains in his artist statement, he sees “art as a spiritual force” and therefore tries an approach to it that is not figurative or definitive but rather expressive.
As he frees his art from the concrete world, he introduces us to a new world made up entirely of forces that cannot be tied down to a simple object or space. However, Toledano manages to create a sense of depth and three-dimensionality in scenarios that lack a tangible description of reality. These long exposure photographs are the artist’s representation of these forces and have a unique quality to them as they cannot be staged or repeatedly found in the material world.
Breaking away from the traditional use of the medium, Toledano exploits the different possibilities light-sensitive material has to offer and, in his attempt to describe the spiritual forces he encounters, he defies the barriers between mediums. He presents us, as a result, with images of painterly qualities made up of lines, color, and movement that deny the original subject of its form. The use of color proves to be key in the creation of intricate and dynamic patterns and textures, resources help enrich the complex abstract expressionist language of his work.
